London Mayor Boris Johnson has given the strongest endorsement of all to redevelopment plans on site by announcing £7.7m allocation from the GLA’s Growing Places Fund to build the Central Research Laboratory (CRL).
The CRL will be a pioneering facility to incubate new hi-tech manufacturing businesses and will create hundreds of jobs and contribute hundreds of millions of pounds to London’s economy over the next ten years, kickstarting the renaissance of the site as a hive of 21st Century innovation, manufacturing and commerce.

The funding will enable the transformation of The Record Store to become a ground-breaking support facility for new manufacturing start-ups where innovators will be able to take their idea through the final stages of development and to market.

This is the first of its kind in the UK and is, simply put, a jobs factory, nurturing and training a highly skilled workforce.

Work will start on the The Record Store in the spring of next year with completion a little later.
